PARTICIPATION OF AS. PROF. DR. FOTIOS SPYROPOULOS IN THE ESC POLICING WORKING GROUP

The Center for the Study of Crime (KE.M.E.) is pleased to announce that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fotios Spyropoulos, Assistant Professor of Criminal Law at the Department of Law, Philips University (Cyprus) and Scientific Director for Academic Affairs and Development at KE.M.E., has been appointed as Liaison to the Policing Working Group of the European Society of Criminology (ESC), representing Greece and Cyprus.

This appointment strengthens KE.M.E.’s connection with international academic and research networks, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices in the fields of policing, criminological research, and academic collaboration.

During the annual Pre-ESC conference of the Policing Working Group, held in Athens on 3 September 2025, As. Prof. Dr. Fotios Spyropoulos participated as a panel speaker in the session titled “The institutionalization of the relationship between police and academia in Europe”, alongside Professors Layla Skinns (University of Sheffield) and Ian Marder (Maynooth University). The discussion focused on issues of leadership, funding, and responsibility in the process of institutionalizing cooperation between police agencies and academic institutions.

Dr. Spyropoulos’s contribution highlighted the importance of comparative analysis of European models of police–academic collaboration, emphasizing the role of trust, accountability, and scientific evidence in building sustainable and transparent partnerships.
